Is art best appraised by intellect or intuition?

Both I think. It depends on how we apprehend the work and whether we connect to it intellectually or through other means, for instance, emotionally. I think we can all use reason to derive certain fundamental aesthetic judgments, like how the artwork is structured, its composition.. etc. But to choose between artworks of similar merits, we intuit which one we would personally prefer.
